Duck coops and chicken coops differ most critically in ventilation and flooring design — ducks produce significantly more moisture and waste than chickens, so a structure built for chickens will trap humidity and damage wood faster when housing ducks.

Chickens roost off the ground and need elevated perch bars; ducks sleep on the ground and need deep, absorbent bedding instead. Duck coops require larger ventilation openings to handle the extra moisture load ducks generate through breathing and wet droppings. A standard chicken coop used for ducks will develop mold, wood rot, and ammonia buildup faster without ventilation modifications. Nesting boxes also differ — ducks prefer low, ground-level boxes, while chickens use elevated ones.
